The Waterville boys varsity basketball team dropped a game last week at home against Cooperstown 52-65.
That, combined with a loss later in the week at Mount Markham, put the Indians at 3-3 as they head to the VVS Tournament this week.
Cooperstown jumped to an early lead in the first quarter and held onto it for the rest of the game. Waterville managed to get it to within five points twice in the fourth quarter but couldn't close the gap to take the lead as time ran out.
Waterville picked up the lead in the opening minutes thanks to two buckets from Cole Pearsall to make it 4-2. Cooperstown hit a three and made two more shots to complete a 7-0 run.
Waterville answered with two foul shots and a leftie layup from Pearsall. Waterville had a chance to take the lead with the score at 8-9 after a Cooperstown travel but Cooperstown was the team that went on a run and finished the first quarter strong to take the lead into the second quarter 16-10.
In the first 8 minutes Pearsall scored all 10 of Waterville's points. Tyson Maxam added two assists and Waterville picked up big rebounds from Connor Marriott, Pearsall, and Darren Johnson.
Cooperstown started the scoring in the second quarter with two free throws. Pearsall sank two free throws of his own to negate the shots.
