The Clinton varsity field hockey team's postseason run ended in the Section Three final against Camden last Wednesday.
Camden took the Class C title with a 4-0 win. Clinton finished the season with 15 wins, two losses and a tie.
The pregame saw both teams warming up with the kind of tension only reserved for title games. There was minimal chatter and lots of focus on the task at hand as Clinton took the field for their pregame drills.
The neutral site game at Sauquoit Valley was more of a home game for the No. 2 seeded Warriors as many fans filled the seats to cheer Clinton on to a title. Lots of Camden fans made the trip too but Clinton was the louder and rowdier crowd.
That changed in the opening minutes of the game when Camden scored their first goal with 28:28 still remaining in the 30-minute first half. Emboldened by their early lead, Camden's fans quickly turned the noise advantage in their favor as Clinton was on the backfoot against the Camden attack.
Clinton goalie Sydney Bialek stopped the next few Camden shots, but Clinton's offense could not respond and put the pressure back on Camden. Bialek made two more saves in the next 10 minutes as Clinton struggled to break past the Camden defenders.
Attackers Gianna Trunfio and Finley Davignon did all they could to stop Camden drives and make plays of their own, but the Camden defense...
