Warriors Go To Semifinals


Clinton’s boys varsity soccer team won both opening-round playoff games last week and will play for a spot in the sectional championship game.

Against Camden, Clinton won 2-0 after scoring two second-half goals to advance to the sectional semifinal against Skaneateles. That game is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 at Fayetteville-Manlus.

Brian Hall scored the first goal after heading in a free kick from Antonio Femia with 18 minutes to play.

Ethan Carr scored the second Clinton goal with 16:25 remaining and the defense shut down Camden the entire way as Owen Saunders saved five shots.

It was a tough, scoreless contest throughout the first half as Clinton constantly chipped away at Camden's defense and Camden refused to break defensively but couldn't move the ball with authority against the Warrior defense.

For Clinton, it was their 10th shutout of the year and win No. 17.

The Warriors take on the Lakers in the first Class B semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner, and the winner of the second game between Chittenango and Westhill, will play Monday, Nov. 4 at Jamesville-Dewitt for the Class B title.

The Warriors started their postseason run with a strong opening-round win over the Mount Markham Mustangs 2-0 last Tuesday. Clinton turned a 0-0 halftime tie into a 2-0 win with goals from sophomore Samuel Butcher and senior Femia.
