Indians Head To Semifinals


The Waterville Indians kept their season alive with their first-round handling of Sauquoit at home Friday night.

In the first round of the Class D playoffs, WCS took the lead early in the first quarter on the team they had beaten 7-6 during the season. Sauquoit forced Waterville to punt on their first possession but Waterville’s defense responded by pushing Sauquoit backwards on their first drive.

Sauquoit opted to punt on 4th and 14 and the snap sailed over the punter's head with pressure put on by Kaleb McEwan. Sauquoit fell on the ball and Waterville was given a safety to start the game 2-0.

Waterville took the next drive and converted two first-downs to set up first and goal from the eight-yard line. Senior quarterback Cody Spooner rushed for three yards on first down before Waterville threw an incomplete on second down.
