Local Woman Debuts First Book For Children


An Oriskany Falls resident and Waterville Central School graduate has published her first children’s book.

Michelle Boehlert wrote “Skyler’s Travels: Learning to Fly,” which is available at Balboa Press’s website.

Boehlert’s journey into writing a book started on a night she was helping her son with homework eight years ago. Her son had a creative writing project he needed to complete; however, he was upset he couldn’t come up with anything to write about, Boehlert said.

“I turned around and wrote this story in about 15 minutes,” she said. “And I read it to him. He said, ‘You found that somewhere on the Internet. You didn’t do that.’”

After showing her son that writing creatively is possible, she let a friend take the 15-minute story to read in front of a kindergarten class. “The kids went crazy,” she said. “She came back and said…
