Nixon, a Democrat who is described as "a progressive fighter" in her political handout, made a campaign stop in Utica recently.
Those in attendance had a chance to meet Nixon after hearing about her stance on various political issues. Nixon started her speech by saying, “I’m running because I love New York, and because I know we can do so much better than we’re doing right now.”
In the 20-minute speech she talked about rent justice and equally funded public schools. “Why is it when the budget is tight, why are our schools and our kids always the first thing on the chopping block?” Nixon said.
