A Present From The Past


One hundred and twenty-eight years ago, members of the Hamilton College Class of 1890 filled a copper box with memorabilia of their time on The Hill.

On June 24, 1890, the 40 men took turns turning shovelfuls of dirt onto their time capsule near the entrance to the college in Clinton. Two days later, they graduated and went off into the world, leaving the box behind.

With work being done on some of the college’s roads this summer, the work crews from Central Paving and Oneida County Department of Public Works knew they might unearth a treasure from the past. That they did June 29.
