Trail System Supported

The Kirkland Town Board passed a resolution to enable a group seeking to establish a trail system through the area the opportunity to seek grant money to help fund their project.

At their meeting last Wednesday, town Supervisor Bob Meelan said that would be the last effort for them by the town. Meelan said the town will concentrate on finishing plans for rezoning the Route 12B corridor.

“Route 12B comes first,” he told group members, who were joined by Oneida County Legislator Chad Davis at the June 27 meeting.

Davis said the land proposed to make the recreational hiking and biking trail is 95 percent owned by the state. They still need easements from property owners to make it happen.

Davis said he had drawn up the easement proposal and submitted it to town Attorney Tony Hallak. “A permanent easement is the lynch pin to this project,” Davis said.
