The Clinton Village Board voted unanimously last week to terminate any obligations with the Solar Liberty company, bringing to an end their participation in a more than two-year proposal to bring a solar power array to the area.
“For the first time in this project, I am voting aye,” Trustee Thomas Firsching noted at the June 4 meeting. He has opposed the idea consistently since the original vote was taken to pursue the project back in June 2016.
The plan hit a major snag at the village’s February 2017 meeting because Buffalo-based Solar Liberty said the company was facing a surprisingly higher quote than expected for the hookup to National Grid. Solar Liberty decided at that time they could absorb the extra cost if the village would sign an agreement to use solar power from that array for 25 years rather than the earlier requested 20. A slightly higher rate per kilowatt hour was also added to the revised plan.
