In 2017 a Canadian town in British Columbia about the size of Clinton won the Kraft Hockeyville Canada title.
Lumby, British Columbia won $100,000 in renovations to its Pat Duke Memorial Arena. The home of 2,000 people saw the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers play in their pre-season game in nearby Kal Tire Place, chosen because of its larger seating capacity of 3,500.
The town’s motto is ‘eat, sleep, hockey, repeat’. Events celebrated during their Hockeyville weekend included an appearance by the Stanley Cup that allowed people to take photos with the NHL’s championship trophy, a clinic for local referees put on by NHL refs and a festival.
Lumby is at the base of the Monashee Mountains, with logging as its main industry. The minor league teams the Lumby Stars play at the Duke, as did the former Lumby Fighting Saints, a professional team.
