From June 1 through July 31, the Village of Clinton and Town of Kirkland will try out a new sharing of services as the town will pick up both green waste and the regular Wednesday trash pickup within the village.
Mayor John Crossley and Trustee Steve Bellona told the Clinton Village Board at their May 7 meeting how they had recently been at a meeting with the town to develop ideas for sharing between the municipalities. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has tasked municipalities throughout the state to come up with ways of consolidating services, and both Clinton and Kirkland have already been ahead of that challenge for a while.
“This will test the water for another shared service with them,” Bellona said of the two-month plan.
The green waste pickup will take place every two weeks. Bellona cautioned residents not to put out the refuge too early. If they’ve just seen the trucks go by, they should wait a couple of weeks to put out more to make sure to keep the village streets as clean as possible, he said. Yard waste should also be kept out of the roadway, he added.
Superintendent of Public Works Robert Rockwell noted some residents have been placing their garbage to the curb well before the mandated earliest time of Tuesdays at 5 p.m. before the Wednesday collection. They have started to crack down on people doing that, he said. Names of offenders have been turned over to their codes enforcement officers.
