The April 10 meeting of the Town of Marshall Board began, after the Pledge of Allegiance, with a moment of silence for Morrie Sturdevant, Town Supervisor, who passed away April 1.
Later in the meeting, there was much discussion about the position of Supervisor. It was suggested that Sue McConnell, Deputy Supervisor, who has been holding that position and running the meetings for over a year, fill out at least the first year of the four-year term Sturdevant was elected to in the fall of 2017. However, because there was not a quorum - only two Council members who could vote on the resolution were present at the meeting - this was tabled until the next meeting.
At a special meeting a week later, McConnell resigned her position as Council-woman as of April 17 and was appointed to fill the role of Town Supervisor until the end of 2018. Her Councilperson position remains open. Councilman Jamie Peck was appointed Deputy Supervisor.
