Hockey Inspires Creativity

Rachel Ward

The Kirkland Town Library and Kirkland Art Center coordinated stories and artwork submitted for the 100 Years of Hockey Art Contest.

"We had over 40 submissions from area schools, which was a brilliant response from the community," said Tim Rand, the KAC's marketing director. "The whole weekend was a great success and really brought the community together in a special way."

The artwork was part of the Thank You Albert Prettyman Writing and Art Contest, a cooperative venture of the Kirkland Town Library, the Kirkland Art Center and the Clinton Historical Society.

The submissions ranged from an homage to Picasso's famous blue period piece The Old Guitarist with a hockey themed twist, detailed graphite drawings of the high action in the Clinton Arena, and plenty of pieces inspired by the kids' favorite Comets, Sabers and Rangers players.
