The Town of Winfield Board met Wednesday night to discuss new business.
Tracey Casler, Linda Cienava, and Mike Cienava spoke to the Board about a camping trailer between dairy farms.
They said they are concerned the property owner's establishing an unlawful residence on the property.
Codes Officer Mike Connors said the owner of the residence was under the impression he could build on the property.
The owner was told to remove the installed mailbox because it's not a residence.
He can't dump his sewage on the property but if he has a portable sewage container he can remove it at any campground with a dumping station.
Casler is concerned because there was illegal burning and DEC raids on the same property with a previous owner.
Connors said the owner has to prove he has 200-feet of road frontage, 100-feet back from the centerline, and 20-feet on either side of the house, according to Connors' explanation of the zonage law.
Previous owners of the property have proven the frontage and setbacks aren't enough. "I don't think he'll be able to get a survey tomorrow," Connors said, "but he needs to prove to me he's trying."
The Board held a discussion with the trio about their options and the previous states of the property.
Town of Winfield Supervisor Bill Miller said, "I think what we need to do is let Mike do what he needs to do and we'll let you know what's going on."
