Speeds Lowered On Road Within Town Of Columbia

Speed studies of Mckoons Road in the Town of Columbia showed the need to reduce the legal limit.
At last week’s Columbia Town Board meeting it was reported that the following changes will be made:
*Lowering the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph between Smith Road and one-third mile north of Richfield Hill Road
*Lowering the speed limit from 55 mph to 50 mph between one-third mile north of Richfield Hill Road and approximately 2,000 feet west of Route 28.
*There is an existing section of 30 mph posted speed limit from Route 28 to approximately 2,000 feet west.
Herkimer County is awaiting the official order from the DOT, after which the County will install the new signing.
The speed studies came about after residents on McKoons Road asked for a lower speed limit.
From Columbia Center to Smith Road the speed limit remains 55 mph.
The state will require a new item on the form for renewing a dog license.
