Retirement Was A 2020 Vision

When thinking about stepping away from his West Winfield optometry practice, Dr. Donald Knapp thought it humorous every time he considered retiring in 2020.


2020 is, as Knapp said, the perfect number in his field, meaning perfect eyesight. Still, he wasn’t convinced.


Then the pandemic hit last Spring and Knapp didn’t need any more signs.

“I had started a planned phase to retire a few years ago,’’ said Knapp, who lives in Sauquoit. “Then with the pandemic I realized it was no longer fun with all the worries in addition to the practice.’’


A couple of years ago he ended his practice in Herkimer, working only out of his West Winfield office. Late last year he closed that office and ended his 39 years there tending to the sight needs…
