Waterville Bonds For Project Work

Waterville Village Board members voted last week to borrow $1.35 million for the costs of the Wastewater Treatment Plant project.

 

The discussion and vote came during the board’s first remote meeting. Mayor Gene Ostrander, DPW Superintendent Jamie Bechy and Village clerk Gayle Barnes were at the Village Hall using conference call technology to meet with Trustees Brian Bogan, Dan Nichols, Doug Plourde and Laurie Fuess, along with Attorney Bill Getman. The Times was also at Village Hall.

 

The bonding resolution passed for the project is subject to a permissive referendum. The resolution, posted in public places around the village, allows a village resident to call for a public vote on the matter if desired.

 

Three years ago the board voted to borrow $2.5 million towards the cost of equipment replacement and upgrades at the Route 315 facility. The estimate for work has since increased to $3.857,000.

 

Bechy said bids for the work were pushed back a week for a due date last week. As of the meeting no bids had been received, but he said two companies were interested, including the one that did the work on the plant in 1997.

 

Bechy said because of the coronavirus limitations he wanted to be sure bidders had enough time to get information from vendors before submitting a bid. 

 

Bids are expected to be approved at the board’s meeting next week.

 

The first meeting of April is typically the village’s reorganizational meeting, but Barnes said that has been postponed to perhaps June. Village elections have been moved to no earlier than June 1 from their original March date.
