Magicians Stop Clinton 28-21

The Clinton Warriors' football season ended at home Saturday in a 28-21 gut-wrenching game that saw Clinton lose a 14-point lead in the second half. 

 

Despite trailing by 14 points early in the second half, Herkimer scored three consecutive touchdowns for a stinging defeat for the Warriors, who ended the season with 5 wins and 3 losses. It was a promising season cut short early and what felt unfairly as Herkimer turned the momentum of the game around quickly.

 

Clinton scored the first points of the game on a Tanner Deveans pass to Kole Davignon on a post route for a six-yard touchdown. Josh WIlcox got the kick through for a 7-0 Warriors lead. 

 

Herkimer responded with a rushing touchdown on their next drive. Clinton answered back in six plays when Deveans snuck in for a 1-yard score and Clinton was up 14-7 after another Wilcox extra point. 

 

Aiden Walter stuffed the next Herkimer drive with a tackle for loss on second down to force an incomplete pass on third and long. Herkimer punted and the teams went to the half with Clinton up 14-7.

 

After halftime, Clinton scored with 8:42 left in the third quarter. Deveans rushed for 23 yards up the left sideline. The run was set up from several bruising Walter rushes and the Warriors went up 21-7.

 

Overall devans carried the ball 26 times and gained 116 yards, with two rushing touchdowns. Walter gained…
