Waterville Girls Win Title Again

Waterville versus Remsen for the Brothertown Optimist Girls Championship game saw both teams trading control in the early going. 


In the end, the home Indians prevailed, claiming another tournament title. For the second straight year both Waterville teams won their opening tournament.


In the championship game, while the action would fluctuate around the field, Waterville forced possession for both teams into Remsen's territory for the majority of the opening 10 minutes.


Remsen would respond by attacking sporadically to keep Waterville's defense honest. Hailey Jewitt, Remsen's goalie, made a great play on a corner kick. She snagged the ball out of the air with the sun in her eyes on a shot from Anna Beach that could have been finished by a crashing Brianne Barnes. The corner kick was also helped by a tailwind gusting strong enough to blow over…
