“It Was Always About The Kids’’

When new teachers in the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES attended orientation, they heard what was expected of them.

These four things, stressed OHM Superintendent Howard Mettelman, were not suggestions or goals. “I said this was the way we do things each and every day for each and every kid and person we come in contact with.’’

The list:

1. Be professional and be a professional.

2. Be present when on the job with students. “You never get a day back in a third grader’s life,’’ he said.

3. Be prepared. Look at the 180 days of the school year and know where you have to be on Day 1 to be where you need to be on Day 180.
