Waterville FFA Club members Abigail Wratten, Molly Williams and Kathleen Gallagher also are playing a big role this coming year in dairy education around Oneida County. All three will be seniors at Waterville in the fall.
Waterville FFA members Abigail Wratten and Owen Williams, with help from advisor Cindy Gallagher, wrapped up their presentation to the Waterville Board of Education recently and waited for questions.
First, though, came a comment from Board member Russell Stewart. “It’s hard to believe you did all that in one year, let alone your first year,’’ he said. “Congratulations to all of you for all your efforts.’’
As the foundation of agriculture economy shifts to see a reduced number of people staying in the profession, at Waterville Junior-Senior High School the opposite approach has been taken. After taking small steps towards it, last fall the district launched an agri-business program for students.
The idea is to help students, many of whom are growing up on farms in the area, find careers in agriculture along with learning the skills needed to run a business and learn leadership abilities.
