Kids All Day, Then A Special Baby At Home

June 6, 2018

Teachers run their classrooms with precision planning and keeping the work on schedule.

Even when they know there will be an interruption, such as having a baby early in the school year, they prepare lessons for subs and get their classrooms in order for their maternity leave.

For Brookfield Central School pre-k teacher Sarah Abrams, everything worked out as planned when she and husband Andrew welcomed Ellie Anne Abrams Oct. 4, her due date.

For Waterville fifth grade teacher Paula Larkin, nothing went as planned when she gave birth to the first child for her and husband Chris. Althea Mae Larkin was born Sept. 25, seven weeks before her due date of Nov. 7.

The babies, just nine days apart, were chosen as the Waterville Times Babies of the Year to highlight the additional work that teacher-moms have to put in when their baby arrives.
