The Clinton Central School Board of Education gave their official approval to the $27,894,313 tentative 2018-19 budget at their meeting last week, moving the plan into the district resident’s hands for their own vote in May.
The proposed tax levy change came in at 1.9 percent, according to district Assistant Superintendent for Business Joseph Barretta.
Barretta was able to present the final budget plan at the April 17 meeting thanks to the recent passing of the New York state budget. Using the state aid figures announced in that budget, he finished work on the district’s own financial plan, with an increase of $489,197 or 1.79 percent over the previous year’s budget.
“Joe, that was great work keeping it at 1.9 percent,“ Board of Education President Mary Lou Lauchert complimented.
The board will host a budget hearing May 8 to hear any concerns and commentary from the district residents. The budget plan will go out for public vote May 15.
In the Bright Spots portion of the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Steve Grimm announced the district was recently named by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation to the prestigious recognition as one of their 2018 Best Communities for Music Education. He complimented music teachers Norin Lavender, Jenna Wratten, Lisa Jones, Hillary Lopata and Janelle Conklin for creating such creative musical educational opportunities within the district.
